Vino Temperatures
Welcome to another hot tip on how to take your wine-drinking experience to the next level!
A lesser-known fact is that there is no universal temperature that works for all kinds of wine and the temperature at which you drink it can have a significant impact on its flavor and aroma. Serving wine at the wrong temperature can make it taste dull, muted, or even unpleasant. Conversely, serving wine at the right temperature can enhance its flavors and aromas, making it a more enjoyable experience.
Typically, red wines are served at room temperature (not the Indian standard!) around 13-20°C, and white, rosé and sparkling wines are served chilled around 6-13°C. Of course, this ultimately depends on your personal preferences as well.
Here’s a quick guide to follow to get the most out of your bottle of wine:
Medium to full-bodied Reds like Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz: 15-18°C
Light-bodied Reds like Pinot Noir or Beaujolais: 13-18°C
Full-bodied Whites like a complex Chardonnay: 13-18°C
Light to medium-bodied Whites like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio: 7-10°C
Rosés: 7-10°C
Sparkling wines like Champagne or Prosecco: 7-10°C
Sweet wines like Moscato or Sauternes: 6-8°C
There are also some DOs and DONTs when it comes to bringing your wine to the right temperature. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Don’t put ice cubes in your wine to cool it down - that’s a big no-no! You will dilute the flavors of the wine and kill the aromas.
Don’t be tempted to heat the wine - keep it far away from things like radiators, microwaves, strong sunshine, and bright lights.
Do warm a wine slowly by placing it in a room temperature environment for 30-45 minutes.
Do use a refrigerator or wine cooler to chill a wine quickly. You can even place it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
Tell me how it goes, cin cin!
