Grape Guide: Gamay

Gamay is a red grape variety with a fascinating history. The chiller brother of Pinot Noir, it shares the grape's delicate nature and subtle fruit flavors. It thrives in cooler climates and unlike Pinot Noir, is less prone to disease. This made it a popular choice for winemakers in Burgundy during the Middle Ages, especially after the Black Plague decimated the workforce, making Gamay's lower maintenance a plus.
